Learning outcomes

During this two-day course, we will explore the latest findings in pain science, and provide you with practical tools and techniques to apply in your work. Our aim is to empower you with the knowledge and skills to achieve true pain treatment outcomes.

This experience will:

  • Massively increase your knowledge of pain biology
  • Improve your ability to integrate this into your assessment and management of anyone in pain
  • Gain an insight into the future of pain research, science and care

Learning overview

Welcome to an exciting journey of discovery and learning! This course delves into the fascinating world of learning and its relationship to pain. You'll explore the power of priors and models, and how they can shape our predictions and trigger updated models when errors occur.

Through the course, you'll understand how to weigh the relative importance of prior and new data and how to optimize error detection.

You'll also gain insight into associative learning, the principles of Conceptual Change, reinforcement frequency, predictability, and emotional context. You'll learn to distinguish different data sets, understand extinction principles and how they relate to pain, and assess what you have conditioned.

In addition, we'll delve into the science of long-term potentiation, which examines how emotional engagement can impact learning and memory. We'll also discuss toll-like receptors and molecular pattern recognition, and how they contribute to our understanding of pain.

Moreover, this course emphasizes the importance of considering multiple factors that influence pain, such as past experiences, current environment, social connections, and general health. You'll learn strategies to optimize learning and reduce pain, including movement, loading, and inflammation control. You'll also be introduced to various tools, such as the protectometer, DIMS, and SIMS, to aid in the assessment and treatment of pain.

At the end of the course, you'll have a comprehensive understanding of the complexities of learning and how it relates to pain. You'll be equipped with various tools and strategies to optimize learning and reduce pain. So, come join us and let's embark on an exciting journey of learning and discovery!
